Causes of Neck Pain

The cervical spine or our neck begins at the base of the skull extending down seven small vertebrae. The cervical spin supports the full weight of our head, which can be up to 12 pounds. The cervical spine can move in every direction but this movement makes the neck prone to pain and injury.

The neck it strong and fragile at the same time. There are a variety of things that can affect the neck in a negative way. These things can include sitting for long periods of time, accidents, falling or getting hit, aging, and just daily movements that wear on your neck.

Neck Adjustments

A neck adjustment or cervical manipulation is a precise procedure applied to the joints of the neck that can be done by hand or specific instrument. Neck adjustments are preformed to improve the mobility of the neck and spine and restore the correct alignment of the spine in the cervical vertebrae. Patients can see improvements in range of motion, less pain, and stiffness. Some also have seen their migraines and headaches go away.

Here at Empowered Chiropractic we will develop a program of care that can combine more than one type of treatment depending on your specific needs at the moment. There can be a variety of things besides the adjustment that can include exercises for you to do at home, therapies in the office and recommended supplements to help with staying healthy.

Risks of Other Pain Treatments

If you are looking at risk factors as a whole compared to other treatment options, it is important to understand the other treatment options. As you know prescription and over the counter painkillers just mask the source of the pain rather than actually correcting the source of the problem while introducing other side affects that could be harmful. We are not saying painkillers are bad because there is a time and place for them but they merely cover the pain. When talking about surgical intervention, we can see that it is an invasive procedure that has its own risks associated with it and the recovery time.

Chiropractic in many cases can help correct the problem in a non-invasive all natural way without the risk of intervention and prescription. It also can help prevent future pain in the area while improving the bodies overall function!
